Blade and Rose Review

Whilst attending the Prima Baby Awards for judging, it was great to find out about brands I wasn't already familiar with. Blade and Rose had been given a place on the prestigious shortlist!

Whilst browsing during the judging, I came across Blade and Rose Baby leggings. These come in many cool prints, such a stripes and aliens and stars and rockets. The funky designs don't just look good, they're ideal for us!

We baby wear a lot and whilst in the Connecta sling, I'm sometimes a little conscious that Isaac's legs may become a little cold. Layering with Blade and Rose leggings and his normal outfit is perfect. Then if he becomes too hot (or covered in his lunch!) I whip off the top layer and a funky new outfit is revealed!

Blade and Rose are reasonably priced at £10 and are so well made. They wash great and dry easily. We'll be investing in some more funky designs once he's outgrown these. Several new designs have just been launched. Check out their website for details! http://www.bladeandrose.co.uk

Mamas and Papas Armadillo Flip

Armadillo flip review

After being appointed as a judge for Prima Baby Awards 2015, I was pleased to see that the Mamas and Papas Armadillo Flip had been shortlisted in the best innovation category.

A product that had had a lot of hype surrounding it, prior to its release, it had been marketed as 'the revolutionary big little stroller' and described as 'The only stroller you'll ever need'. A lot to live up to!

I had a brief 'play' with it whilst at Prima Baby HQ and was impressed by the ease of handling, how lightweight it was and that it was both parent and world facing. So I was overjoyed when it arrived on my doorstep!

I was a little giddy when the box arrived and immediately got it out and assembly was a breeze! I tried my toddler for size first and it is huge! Firstly trying parent facing, then world facing. It's a breeze to push and so comfortable for the baby/child inside. The break is very efficient and easy to operate.

I fell in love with the teal colour and the huge hood to protect against all the elements. It is incredible; providing shade and coverage for all your baby's body, not just shielding their head.

After adjusting the straps, I tried my baby it in. At around 6 months, I was a little reluctant, but he was so comfortable and could be fully reclined. A testament to its popularity in our house, Isaac immediately fell asleep!

Folding the Armadillo Flip is straightforward and it's very compact when folded.

As much as I've fallen in love with the Armadillo Flip, I've found a few negatives; the harness is a little fiddly whilst trying to strap in a wriggly baby, it can be a bit of a challenge.

Priced at £399, the only accessory included is a rain cover. Changing bags and footmuffs are sold separately. Some may argue that it becomes a little expensive once you've added on accessory costs.

I may also dispute the one handed fold. I struggle when holding a baby in one hand whilst folding, but with practice, I'm sure I could master it eventually!

Overall, it's still love from us and we receive lots of compliments on our new wheels! A huge thanks to Mamas and Papas and Prima Baby Magazine!

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil Review

As part of the Prima Baby Awards, I was sent this lovely skin therapy oil in order to test for the Mum Hero beauty product section.

I'd used several of the Palmer's range before (stretch mark cream, body moisturiser and lip balms) and was always impressed by how wonderful the products were. The body moisturiser is one of my holiday staples, as I often use it as an after sun to replace lost moisture after a day of sunshine. So I was looking forward to trying out this product.

Firstly, I was impressed by the pump action, rather than a spray which results in less wastage. With other body oils, you often have to remove the top or use a spray action, this often results in the product going everywhere but where you want it! The ease of use is a big thumbs up from me!

The scent is divine and so soothing and reminds me of holidays. I'll be taking this product to my holiday this summer!

The oil is easily absorbed and leaves skin with a light sheen, without being heavy. It moisturises for the whole day and the scent remains. It is perfect to relieve any dryness, especially on knees and elbows and perfect on stretch marks post pregnancy.

For a busy mum of two, it really is a mum hero product! Easy to use, affordable and efficient! Priced at £9.99.

It is available in many retailers, including pharmacies such as Boots and several supermarkets. Well done on your well deserved Prima Baby Gold Award!

Sainsbury's Little Ones Wipes

Since Noah was born, I've used the same brand of wipes and not tried out any other brands, so was keen to see if I could try other brands and critique (and quite possibly save some money!)

I found that the Sainsbury's wipes were strong and durable and 'wet enough' for cleaning babies during nappy changes and for sticky fingers and faces after food. They're also great for removing make up!

At 80p per pack, they've won me over and I've invested and changed to using only this brand now. I've also found that buying a multipack often makes it cheaper again!

A huge thanks to Sainsbury's and congratulations on your Prima Baby Award! Well deserved for a fantastic, efficient and reasonably priced product!

Trunki Made For Me Review

Trunki Made For Me

After receiving a gift voucher as part of the Prima Baby Awards, myself and my toddler, Noah set to work on the website.

The website is a tool to design your own Trunki from a huge range of colours. It is easy to navigate and allowed Noah to choose the colours he wanted by a simple click (very easy to do on the iPad!) He decided on a blue body, red nose, ears, handles and strap and black wheels. It took a very short time. Checkout was as simple as inputting the voucher number and our name and address.

Estimated delivery is around a week and ours was delivered after 12 days. Noah was very excited when the delivery van arrived, shrieking, "my Trunki!" We quickly took it out of the box and Noah immediately sat on it (he'd watched numerous YouTube videos of children having fun on them!) After I opened it, I simply attached the strap and pulled him along on it. The utter joy on his face was incredible!

We're planning on using it on our forthcoming holiday and I'm sure it'll be very well used over the next few years.

Priced at £39.99, I think it's worth every penny! It's very sturdy and hard wearing plastic. When Isaac is a little older, we'll also be investing in one for him. A great gift item and perfect for jet setting toddlers!

Broccoli and cauliflower fritters

I'm always on the lookout for tasty and interesting meal ideals, especially side dishes and ways to include more vegetables. I find that it gets rather repetitive and boring for the boys when serving the same dishes again and again.

I found a very simple recipe for vegetable fritters and amended it. It was a big hit with my boys. These fritters can also be frozen, however they didn't last long here! They're so easy for babies and toddlers to pick up and handle in order to feed themselves, ideal if you're following Baby Led Weaning (BLW) or beginning to explore finger foods. The recipe is below.

You will need:
A few florets of broccoli
A few florets of cauliflower
A small amount of grated cheese (I use cheddar or tiny cubes of halloumi)
One egg
3 tablespoons of self raising flour
A little black pepper
A drizzle of olive oil

Instructions:
1. Chop the vegetables into florets and par boil them (approximately 10 minutes in boiling water)
2. Allow the vegetables to cool.
3. Grate a little cheese, mix with egg, black pepper and the flour.
4. Chop the vegetables more finely and add to the wet mixture.
5. Ensure that your pan is hot and place mounds of the mixture into the pan; you'll likely get around 5.
6. Cook on a high heat for around 2 minutes and turn over for another 2 minutes.
7. Allow to cool and serve.

Are you the parent you imagined?

As Noah approaches 3 years old (how did that happen?!) I've been reflecting upon how my life has changed. Prior to becoming a parent, I made a lot of presumptions about how I'd parent my children, what I'd do and what I'd never do and I've learned a lot about myself, especially through seeing myself through the eyes of my children.

1. I used to see parents covered in their child's bodily fluids and smirk (snot, sick, saliva, poo etc) now, I'm lucky if I get to the end of the day without an outfit change due to aforementioned bodily fluids. A few weeks ago, I mistakenly licked my hand, thinking it was chocolate; it wasn't, it was the remnants of a rather awful nappy explosion. I'll never make that mistake again!

2. I always said that I'd never raise my voice. Yes, unfortunately I do. However much I try, sometimes I end up repeating myself "...please don't do..." and end up raising my voice to show him that I mean business. He doesn't tend to listen after that either!

3. I always said that I'd have a firm schedule, with activities, timings and a spreadsheet. I've never made a spreadsheet yet and some days I high five my husband as I've simply kept both of them alive, never mind stuck to a schedule. We've taken a more child led approach and follow the boys' interests closely; diggers are our forte and I can recognise a backhoe loader from a bulldozer any day!

4. I always said that I'd never allow my children to eat junk food and they'd eat a balanced and predominantly organic diet. Unfortunately, Noah's sweet sounding requests of "biscuits pleeeeeaaaassseee!" tends to work and gives approximately 2 minutes of blissful silence, until Isaac screams to be fed! Although the boys' favourite foods are still broccoli and blueberries; it could be worse!

5. I viewed myself as a mum who'd surround her children with beautiful wooden and handcrafted toys. We've a mound of plastic which now dominates our living room, but the boys are happy!

6. Before becoming parents, we had a driving holiday in France. We envisaged that's what our holidays would be like with kids. No chance! We endured hour upon hour of driving. We'll fly and go elsewhere! Far easier than packing up the car with everything but the kitchen sink and then being bored listening to "The Wheels On The Bus" on repeat, for 4 hours!

7. I always naively thought that I'd have a couple of months of restless nights, then baby would 'sleep through', I'd sleep and husband sleeps. How wrong was I? A typical night is: eat together as a family, bath the boys, pjs and snuggle time, feed baby, husband put toddler to bed, baby cluster feed, put baby to bed, baby wakes and wants fed again, feed baby and eventually settle, have a quick bath, collapse into bed, baby wakes and wants fed again, sleep, awoken by toddler creeping into bed at 1am for hugs, feed baby, put toddler back to bed, sleep, feed baby, wake up feeling not so refreshed! Most nights result in co sleeping to ensure that we get some sleep! I hear every sniffle, every sneeze, every wriggling limb. Oh, and they're early risers! 3 years and not a decent night of sleep yet. I don't think chloroform would help these two! Let's hope their teenage years are restful!

8. I wanted a name for my children that you hadn't heard 100 times, I'd had names that I'd 'ruled out' for the boys; names of friends and family and ones that I just disliked and I vowed that I'd choose names that weren't really popular. Seemingly once I've chosen a name, it's appeared on the top 20 names list. Even Michael Buble stole the name Noah for his son and then it boomed into popularity! Original, perhaps not so much...

9. I didn't realise that I'd become so passionate about particular parenting choices; breastfeeding, not allowing baby to 'cry it out', baby wearing, co sleeping, etc. I do what I believe is best for the boys and they're happy with that!

So thank you to my boys, for making me the parent I am today! Are you the parent you thought you'd be?
